Tamagotchi Wiki

The TamaTown Tama-Go is an international Tamagotchi virtual pet released by Bandai in August 2010 in the USA and Australia which combines elements of the Tamagotchi Plus Color with the Tamagotchi Music Star. It has also been referred to as the Tamagotchi Connection Version 7 or V7 (although not on the packaging) and uses Tamacom infrared communication, as with its predecessors.

The Tama-Go introduced a 4-part greyscale feature, which would be carried over to the Tamagotchi Friends, as well as a 3D background feature.

It also retains the widened display from Connections V5 through V6/Music Star. If left alone for a short time, the background can disappear, maintaining the original 2D display from previous versions.

Design[]

Tamatown tama-go

A Tama-Go at Toy Fair 2010.

The Tama-Go contains a shell similar to the Tamagotchi iD. The bottom of the toy is flat, and a top portion of the shell can be removed to insert one of the Gotchi Figures. The screen is covered with a plastic casing, which is easily removed. The decal around the screen can also be removed and replaced with other designs. It is also roughly three times bigger than any other Tamagotchi. The buttons are white and hard, rather than being soft and made of rubber like previous versions. A small loop is attached to the top right of the shell and a bead chain is attached to it.

The packaging depicts the character's personality and favorite quote, and has a flap which reveals a Mini DVD of Let's Go! Tamagotchi shorts (second wave only) and more information about the toy.

Features[]

Gotchi Figures[]

Main article: Gotchi Figure

A Gotchi Figure is a toy figure of a Tamagotchi that can be mounted to the top of the Tama-Go. When activated, they unlock new games and food for the Tamagotchi, and when registered online while a gotchi figure is on top of the toy, special items can be activated and purchased at Tamatown.

Each figure contains two games and a shop or a restaurant which has nine total available items, but only four at a time. A Gotchi Figure is included with the Tama-Go and more can be bought separately. Separate figures are bundled with a faceplate themed after the character.

Training[]

Catching the Tamagotchi about to use the bathroom and activating the toilet icon will help to raise a training meter (along with standard discipline and praise). If trained well enough, once fully grown, the Tamagotchi will be able to use the bathroom on their own.

House Interiors[]

The new greyscale feature allows for the Tamagotchi's background to be more detailed, showing different furniture and windows. Users can buy new house interiors from the shop for 5000 gotchi points.

Door[]

Replacing the Game function is a new icon of a door. The Tamagotchi can now leave their house to visit various places. Some destinations become available as the character ages, while others can only be visited with transit passes purchased at stores (after which the ticket can always be used). The destinations are as follows.

  • Games: This brings the Tamagotchi to the arcade, where they can play two games.
  • Shop: This location allows the user to buy additional meals, snacks, and house interiors.
  • Park: The Tamagotchi will visit the part, meet another character, and play on a playground.
  • PC: This sends the Tamagotchi to TamaTown, providing the user a login code.
  • Dating Place: Unlocked once the Tamagotchi is six years old, this allows the user to select a marriage partner for their pet. It can also be used at the senior stage, thereby allowing it to marry without having to connect to another device.

Games[]

The following games are available in the "Games" option from the door:

  • Shoot the Bugs: The Tamagotchi will appear on a platform moving up and down, and bugs will appear on the right side of the screen. The goal is to shoot as many bugs as possible within the 90-second time limit. Pressing the B button fires a shot, while the A button switches the movement of the platform. Clearing 100 bugs before the time limit is reached is a perfect game.
  • Long Jumper: The Tamagotchi will appear running over a series of blocks, and the user must help the Tamagotchi jump across the incoming gaps. The A button is a short jump (1 block length), B is a medium jump (2 block length), and C is a long jump (3 block length).

TamaTown[]

Main article: Music City

Like previous Connection models, the Tama-Go could connect to TamaTown (which was previously branded as Music City for the Tamagotchi Music Star) to earn Gotchi Points and buy items. The website was updated with three new locations to tie in with the Tama-Go's release; these were Swirly Sweets City, Flower Hills Park, and Forest Falls. A day and night cycle feature was also added in along with the ability to log multiple Tamagotchi into the website.

Connectivity[]

The Tama-Go has the ability to connect to the Tamagotchi Connection Version 5, Tamagotchi Connection Version 5 Celebrity, and the Tamagotchi Music Star. The user can connect to play 2 games or marry their Tamagotchi to another user's Tamagotchi. Note that the two Tamagotchi being married must have a good relationship in order for them to go through with it. Relationship can be increased by playing connection games together.

Trivia[]

  • The Asian/Oceanic and Brazilian packaging for the Tama-Go do not use "TamaTown" branding, and use the logo and character designs from the Tamagotchi! anime.
  • This is the first internationally-released Tamagotchi virtual pet to feature characters introduced in the Tamagotchi iD, most noticeably Lovelitchi who would become a franchise mascot.
  • The Tama-Go introduces some features that would be used in future releases:
    • The concept of an attachable piece with extra games and items would be reintroduced as the Tama Deco Pierce for the Tamagotchi P's. Unlike Gotchi Figures, the pierces were small decorative charms that also contained raisable characters.
    • The concept of a removable faceplate would be revisited with the Tamagotchi 4U. Unlike the paper faceplates for the Tama-GO, the faceplate's design was printed into the faceplate itself.
    • The ability of training the Tamagotchi to be able to use the bathroom is also featured in the Tamagotchi 4U.
  • Gotchi Figures of Grippatchi and Mamametchi were shown at the 2010 Toy Fair, but were never released.
  • The Tama-Go has 18 unobtainable characters, many being from previous Connection models and a few being from the Tamagotchi iD. Their data is present within the device, but there is no legitimate way to obtain them.
