The egg stage is the first stage of the Tamagotchi life cycle. All Tamagotchis start as eggs where the player cannot do anything at this point. It will take about a few minutes for it to develop in approximately 1-5 minutes after which the egg will hatch and a new Tamagotchi is born.
Egg Sizes and Patterns
Since the Original Tamagotchi which featured the large size eggs, they have reduced in size. It also showed the Japanese and American eggs to have the same pattern featured whilst the colours would be opposed against that of the other. Each Tamagotchi features its own unique egg pattern and size with the exception of the Connection Tamagotchis.
The second stage of the Tamagotchi life cycle. After the egg hatches, a baby will be born from it. Tamagotchis are born starving and need a lot of attention. In Tamagotchi Connection Version 3 and Tamagotchi Connection Version 4, straight after naming the Tamagotchi, the attention icon lights up and they call for attention. Although, in V5, the Tama-Go, the colour Tamagotchis, or the vintage era, it is not possible to name the Tamagotchis. In every version of the Tamagotchi toy, babies are born with the "Hungry" and "Happy" scale empty. Also, babies in all versions easily get hungry as well. The user must remember to check the "Hungry" while playing with them. This stage is also relatively short, lasting only an hour at the most.
The toddler stage, also known as the "child" stage, or formally known as the rebellious stage, is the third Tamagotchi life cycle. The toddler stage can last for a day or in a few, depending on the Tamagotchi version being played. What toddler can be achieved is often directly associated either with what baby is born or what two Adult characters married to create it. The toddler stage where the user's care and resulting consequences become more apparent, especially when it evolves further into the Teenager stage.
On the Tamagotchi Connection Version 4, Version 4.5, Tamagotchi Music Star, Chou Jinsei Enjoi Tamagotchi Plus, and Ura Jinsei Enjoy Tamagotchi Plus, this is the stage where the Tamagotchi can receive mail and start school.
Also known simply as the "teen" stage, the Teenager stage comes directly after the toddler stage. The Teenager stage can last from 2 to 3 days on average, and all care done at this stage directly dictates which Adult character is achieved. Teenager characters tend to be more physically developed than toddler characters, usually having both arms and legs.
On the Tamagotchi Connection Version 4, Version 4.5, Chou Jinsei Enjoi Tamagotchi Plus, and Ura Jinsei Enjoy Tamagotchi Plus, teenagers will leave their childhood school and begins their education at Tamagotchi School. On the Music Star, at this stage, the Tamagotchi joins the Gotchi Performing Arts School and forms their first band.
The Adult stage evolves from the Teenager stage, and is the final result of all of the user's care throughout the Tamagotchi's life. Many factors such as Skill Level, Discipline, how quickly the Hungry and Happy meters are filled, family bonding, etc. all come into play with determining which adult character is earned. Adults will stay around for the remainder of the Tamagotchi's life span, and at this age, they may marry and produce babies. They can even evolve further into the Special, Parent, or Senior stage. On the Tamagotchi Connection Version 5 and related releases, adults can evolve into other adults through neglect.
On the Version 4 and Version 4.5, as well as the Chou Jinsei Enjoi Tamagotchi Plus and Ura Jinsei Enjoy Tamagotchi Plus, the Tamagotchi leaves school and, based on their skill points, can find a career. On the Music Star, the Tamagotchi and the band members all evolve into Adults, and audition before a panel of judges before debuting as an official band.
The Friend stage is exclusive to the Tamagotchi iD. It replaces and therefore acts as the Adult stage, except that characters cannot evolve any further. The stage also allows for marriage, even though it includes characters such as ChaMametchi and Kikitchi, who are usually considered Teenage characters who would usually be too young to breed.
See main article: Personality Stage
The Personality stage is currently exclusive to the Tamagotchi 4U. It involves a character taking on a new form which is determined by the player's actions. The Personality Stage forms are variations of characters rather than separate characters. The Personality Stage can be reversed, returning the character to its original form. Currently the Personality stage is exclusive to adult characters. The character doesn't age when it evolves into a Personality form.
The Parent stage results when two Tamagotchi adults marry and produce offspring. These were first featured in Tamagotchi Connection Version 5 and related Family pets, but have yet to be seen again.
The Senior stage evolves from an unmarried Adult stage character, and can no longer evolve any further. Senior stage characters' lives will last indefinitely if they do not marry. When they reach the end of their life span, they will pass away. This stage does not feature in the Tamagotchi iD or iD L.
On the Version 4 and Version 4.5, the character will retire, and the Gotchi King will present the Senior with a Walking Cane. Instead of going to a job during the day, the Senior will scroll through Tamagotchi Town and then stop in front of the building where they previously worked.
If two seniors mate, Oyajitchi can be produced, and in the case of the Tamagotchi Plus Color and the Tama-Go, Grippatchi can be produced if the baby is a girl.
Main article: Death
Death is the final stage of a Tamagotchi's life cycle. It can happen from any stage (with the exception of the baby stage) either through neglect or old age. When a Tamagotchi dies, the player must press and hold A and C at the same time. A new egg will appear which will restart the cycle.
